The Evolution of Pod Mods

Apr 6th 2021

Ever since the first pod vapes hit the market in 2015, these little devices have completely changed the vape industry. While traditional box mod and atomizer style vaporizers will always remain the devices of choice for some vapers, the appeal of throwing a fresh pod into a compact pod mod is hard to deny. Since they were first introduced, pod vapes have gone from being a novelty to being one of the largest parts of the vape market. That's why it is so important to understand these vaporizers and to keep plenty of pod base options in stock in your vape shop.

Instead of using a traditional atomizer, these vapes rely on simple pods. Inside every vape pod is a coil and wick, similar to a traditional atomizer. They also contain a reservoir of e-liquid or a port through which vapers can add their own e-liquid to the pods. Some more advanced pods even feature replaceable coil systems, which allow them to be used indefinitely just like a traditional atomizer. The biggest appeal to pod vaping is that these pods are designed to vape nicotine salt e-liquids. This meant that vapers using these devices could get satisfying hits from smaller clouds.

While the pods contain the coils and e-liquid, they still need a power source. There's where pod mods come into play. Most pod mods use internal rechargeable batteries, making them easy to maintain. Your most basic pod battery tends to be significantly smaller than a traditional vape mod. The small size is a direct result of the fact that pod vapes do not need a large battery because they are powering smaller coils for shorter periods of time. Despite their small size, all pod vapes are designed to provide at least a full day's charge.

Much like traditional vapes, pod vapes have evolved significantly over the years. Your most basic pod mods might not have any user controls and they are just designed to accept a pod and activate when drawn. While these designs are simple and effective, they do not leave a lot of room for adjusting the quality of your vapor. Luckily in the 6 years since pod vapes first hit the market, the number of options available has exploded and now there are devices that are able to rival traditional regulated mods in terms of controlling vapor quality. Today we will be looking at different types of pod mods, from our most basic options to our most regulated pod systems.

Basic Pod Mods

Pod mods do not have to be loaded with features to be effective vapes. Half of the appeal of using these devices is their compact size, which often comes with sacrificing room for additional features like screens, buttons, and additional circuitry.
