Pod System Technology is constantly improving

Pod systems have been growing in popularity over the past year, and we’ve begun to notice certain functions and features that can almost be considered standard. Most of the pod systems on the market can be described in similar terms; small size, battery life that can sometimes leave a bit to be desired, and pods that are either fully sealed and pre-filled with e-liquid or empty pods that typically (but not always) have a coil sealed inside. As is typical with the vaping industry, these trends don’t last long before we see moves made towards customizability and modularity, though these concepts can be hard to implement in such small systems. There are changes brewing, though; the companies we’ve come to know and love for their attention to detail and dedication to quality manufacturing of pod systems are starting to introduce new features into their devices to make your life as a vaper more enjoyable.

Suorin, the manufacturer of such popular pod systems as the Suorin Air and Suorin Drop, is at the helm, making their particular brand of changes as the technologies become more readily available for inclusion in their designs. Suorin’s newest piece at the time of writing is the Suorin Edge pod system, a pen-style pod system with a few tricks up its sleeve. On the surface, the Edge is no different than a lot of other kits on the market: 230mAh internal battery, draw-activated firing, 1.5ml pods - pretty standard, right? There is, however, more to the Edge than just these basic specs. To begin, the kit has a lock button on the side - 5 clicks to lock or unlock and keep your device safe from auto-firing or tampering when you don’t mean to. This, however, is hardly the star of the show. The Edge is the first pod system out there to incorporate replaceable batteries. We’re not talking about 18650s or the like; the Edge includes 2 batteries that are proprietary to the design of the device. These batteries slide in and out from the bottom of the device and are secured in with strong magnets. Another innovation, the Edge is among the first vaping devices to support charging through USB-C cables, which are capable of charging at higher rates than Micro USB or the other alternatives. With the new charging technology (which is used to charge most new Android Phones, mind you) the Edge battery charges in only 30 minutes, so you’ll never be without a battery. Suorin is definitely a company to watch - the Edge is hardly their first innovative piece, and it surely won’t be their last.

Another necessary step forward that we’ve been seeing more often is refillable variants of popular pre-filled pods, which are becoming more and more common as companies like JUUL are unable to provide the flavors their customers are most fond of. In JUUL’s case, with recent FDA oversight barring them from selling certain flavors, something new was needed to keep these devices relevant, and OVNS did not disappoint with the release of their JC01 Refillable Pods. These pods are hardly different from what JUUL Vapers are used to, but there is one big difference: OVNS JC01 pods are refillable, so you’re no longer limited to the selection of flavors manufactured by JUUL Labs - you’re now able to fill with any e-liquid you’d like. Without these limitations, users of the JUUL will find more longevity and a potentially lower cost, since these pods allow for multiple fills unless the wick is burnt.

Other manufacturers like Lost Vape have been incorporating functions like variable wattage and temperature control, which are vast improvements over the older pod systems out there, but Suorin and OVNS are looking for solutions to the bigger issues that users have with these kits. We’ve got even more innovative merchandise on the way from the industry’s favorite manufacturers, so keep your eyes peeled for more information in the coming weeks.
